Diwali legiyam or Diwali murundu is very easy medicinal recipe for this diwali festival 2014. This is not a traditional recipe legiyam for not only in Tamil nadu but for other states too. The ingredients used for this recipe can be easily found in your kitchen. Just you need to get knadathipilli and sukku that is dry ginger from market. Ingredients needed for Diwali legiyam

1 tsp of black pepper podi
2 tsp cumin seeds
2 tsp coriander seeds
1 tsp Ajwain seeds nearly 10 grams
Kandathippili sticks 7-8
little quantity of Sukku (dry ginger)
2 cardamom seeds
2 tea spoon Ghee
100 gms powder jaggery.

How to make diwali legiyam?

Diwali marundhu home preparation is easy simple and easy. Mix and Beat all the above mentioned ingredients except ghee and jaggery and then soak them in water for half an hour. Take it out from water and make a fine paste by grinding the ingredients in a mixer grinder.

Then dilute this paste in water to give it a soupy uniformity and boil the mixture in a thick bottom big pan on a medium flame. Stir the mixture as it should not stick to the bottom.

When the water evaporates and the raw smell of the ingredients goes off, add jaggery powder slowly in the mixture. Now you need to be alert and stir the jaggery mixture continuously on low flame.

Move the mixture till it turns into thick halwa. You need to add one spoon ghee in the mixture while stirring. When you can see the ghee is separating from the mixture, your legiyam is ready to serve.

Many people like to add honey on the legiyam in the end of the preparation. Decorate your legiyam with raisins and cashew nuts. To try another method you can make jaggery syrup by adding water in it.

When it is enough thick in consistency, filter and use. Now all the ingredients along with dry ginger soak in water for an hour. Grind and mix this paste in jaggery syrup. Keep on medium flame and keep on stirring the mixture till it gets thick like halwa.
