India have sent a total of 83 players sent to participate in the London Olympics 2012 events and a total of 2 Billion have spent by Indian Government on the Olympic Games including Coaches from Overseas, Infrastructural facilities and many more. In this article we would like to present overview of India in London Olympics 2012 in events like Archery, shooting, hockey, boxing and Badminton. Read this article to know about the overall performance of Indian players in London Olympics 2012.
India in Olympics 2012 held in London
It is a matter of fact that there are about 83 players sent to participate in the Olympics event that is currently happening in London. It is remarkable that the Indian Government has spent about 2 Billion totally on the
Olympic Games
including Coaches from Overseas, Infrastructural facilities and many more. I would say that till now we have only got three medals that too
one Silver and two bronze
that means no Gold as of now. The Expenses incurred by the Indian Government doesn't resemble the medals they have acquired. One must say that it is like a flop show where most of them didn't even qualify for the second rounds of the event. I have given a short and brief view of how the sports activities are going on in Olympics and here are my views regarding each sports
Archery – A flop Show
India is one of the Countries that had more belief on Archery because of the class of players that India had produced for the Olympics. The players were good and some of them were in the top 10 in world class especially Deepika who was the first ranked player in the Women's category but almost everything went bad for India right from the start and India lost all the possibilities that were available for us in the archery. It was indeed a really bad show from India as far as Olympics is concerned.
Shooting – An extra ordinary Performance
Shooting is one of the events that was successful in this Olympics and it is noteworthy that India got a Silver and a Bronze only in this event that too from the experienced shooters of India
Gagan Narang was the first person to get India a Bronze medal
and make India enter the medals tally, soon
Vijay Kumar got a Silver medal
by winning the 25 m Rapidfire and made our country proud. Remember he is the only member of the Indian team who won a silver medal in this Olympics. Though the previous Olympics saw a gold from Abinav Bindra, he was not able to make it to the next round and was pushed out in the Qualification stage itself and this seemed to be a major blow for India as he was expected as a sure Gold medal candidate.
Boxing – Lots of Hope
The Most expected event as of now it the Boxing event as there are three contenders who have already qualified for the Quarter Finals Stage and they are expected to bring some medals for our country. The contenders are Vijendra Singh who got a Silver medal in the previous Olympics, Devenro Singh who is dominating each and every match right from the start and of course the lone female Boxer Mary Gom who won the first set by 19-15. They all are having some impressive records at the moment and one has to wait and see where the story of boxing ends as the event gets competed.
Badminton – Spirit of the game
Badminton is again one of the events that attracted many as the individuals Saina and Kahyap did well in their respective events.
Saina Nehwal won the bronze medal
and she became the first India to achieve this feat as far as Badminton was taken for consideration. I think she achieved this feat and in each match the fire in her made her dominate the opposition in the court. She finally threw herself in the semi finals match where she was nowhere in the game and the Chinese dominated the Indian for almost the entire match. On the other hand the Indian player Kashyap was at his best till the Quarterfinals before he was defeated by the number one badminton player from Malaysia. Kashyap struggled to get into the match but could do so till the end and this faded away his chances of entering into the semi finals stage.
Athletics – A huge Failure
I would say that the athletics events none of the Indian did a good performance as of now. But we have plenty of athletics action still left with us. Our players participated in various events like Triple Jump, Discuss throw, 25 kilometers running and 1500 steep case but all were failures and Indians could not perform well in any of these events well so as to qualify for the finals.
Wrestling- A hopeful event
There are still some events left in the Olympics and this is one of the most important events as far Indians are concerned as the famous Sunil Kumar is yet to participate in the wrestling who previously won a Bronze medal in the previous Olympics event.
I think that there are some nice things that were available in this Olympics like Badminton, Shooting and Boxing but I think it could be even better than what it is now if there were some more medals added to the list in Olympics medals. As still more is left for the Indians I feel that the Indians would get more such medals in the forthcoming matches and the Boxing players are hopefully doing well and I hope that they would certainly get medals for us thus making our country proud by their achievements.
