Aadi Matham


The tamil month Aadi is a the fourth month of the tamil calender year and considered as one among the sacred months of the year because the Dakshinayana Punniyakalam begins at the time. Aadi month has a period from the mid of july to mid of August month of English calender.

Aadi Pirappu or Dakshinya Puniyakalam


The beginning of the month Aadi is celebrated as Aadi Pandigai and called as "Aadi Pirappu". Aadi Pirappu is an important festival for the newly married couples.Dakshinya Puniyakalam, the night of devas begins on this day. And some communities of people perform Tarpanam on that day which means they give Thithi to their ancestors. During this period sun changes its direction.

Aadi Pooram


The new moon day falling in the month of Aadi is celebrated as Aadi Pooram. The day is considered as the birthday of Andal. She is a poetess who wrote Tirupaavai and she married the Lord Balaji too. Women take part in several ritual ceremonies during this month.

VaralakshmiPooja


varalakshmiVaralakshmi pooja is an important pooja performed by women during this month. It is celebrated on the friday before the full moon day,falling in the same month. Here Lordess Varalakshmi who is considered as yet another part of Lakshmi, who is a consort of Vishnu.During this period, women will observe fasting for the wellbeing of their family.

Aadi Perukku


Aadi Perukku is celebrated on the 18th day of Aadi month at the basis of Kaveri basin in Trichy and Tanjavur, which is considered as the holy river of southern India. Aadi Perukku is also known as Pathinettam Perukku is denoted as one of the important festival in Tamilnadu. Mulaipari, the sprouting or germination of seeds of Nine grains known as Navathaniyam is an important ritual activity taking place at this time. The other means of paying owation to the goddess is through Kummipatu. These are done so that, the goddess will make their land fertile for all the period with good amount of rainfall.
