Satyabama University is one of the popular private university in Chennai owned by Jeppiaar Educational Trust. This was established as Sathyabama Engineering College in the year 1988 and was inaugurated by former chief minister of the state of Tamil Nadu Mrs. Janaki Ramachandran. This Christian minority institution was later renamed as Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology and became deemed university in the year 2006.
