Santhanam started his acting career in comedy troupe called as Nungambakkam boys Kondaatam. The troupe did comedy plays during important tamil festivals to entertain people. Famous tamil comedian M.S.Bhaskar was also part of the troupe. He used to join the troupe when he is free from his film acting schedule.

Infact, it paved the way for him to enter the tamil film industry.
