This Maha Deepam is celebrated in Thiruvannamalai and the 2668 feet high mountain is considered as Lord Shiva Linga and the Maha Deepam will be lighted using 3500 kgs of Ghee on the top of this mountain at around 6 pm in the evening on 8-12-2011. Lord Shiva in the form of Arthanareeswarar will bless all his devotees. This is a 10-day festival and special programs will be conducted on the the 10 days in Thiruvannamalai.

Thiruvannamalai Sri Arunachaleshwarar Karthigai Maha Deepam will be telecasted as alive program in all the popular TV channels tomorrow, i.e., . Doordarshan Podhigai will telecast this maha deepam from 4.15 pm on December 8 2011 (Thursday).

Vasanth TV will also provide this live telecast of Maha Deepam 2011 from around 4 pm. This channel will also telecast the Bharani (Barani) Deepam from 3 am or 3.30 am on Dec 8 morning.
