Acting in a very powerful character is the dream of all Tamil actors and they are not easily accepting all stories and they show some interest to choose their character. Velayutham tamil movie story is closely related the story of Telugu movie Azad, which was directed by tirupati swamy. In Tamil the story was directed with little changes which suits to the style of Tamil actor Vijay. Actress Genelia is doing the role of Journalist. In this character she is having a confidence to achieve anything with the weapon of a pen. Actor Vijay is a very active young man doing the role of milk man. He lives happily with his parents and one sister. This is the time of Vijay's sister's marriage; he saved some money in chit fund. Due to her sisters marriage Vijay from village goes to Chennai to collect the money.

At this time there is a bomb blasts in the city. The city police feel very difficult to trace the victims those who are responsible for the bomb blast. At this situation, Journalist Genelia leave a message in fluke that, very soon a person called Velayutham is going to come, he will find and punish the bomb plotters.

The People of the city trust TV flash news and waiting for the arrival of unknown person Velayutham. In casual, Velayutham enters the city to collect his money and goes to a famous temple. There, people know that he is Velayutham and all surprised about his visit. His name and face become popular overnight, with out knowing anything about this; Velayutham confused and came to know about the happenings later. Genelia is shocked that her dream character becomes true.
The movie travels on the way of Chit fund money cheating, Vijay's sister death. This made milk man Velayutham to super hero Velayutham who act against the evil actions. Velayutham tamil movie story ends with the marriage of Vijay and Hansika.
