Beaches in Tamilnadu

There are numerous number of beaches of Tamilnadu. Tamilnadu is covered by Bay of Bengal sea in its eastern region and Indian ocean to its south. Most of the sea are used as tourist spot, fishing occupation and some as pilgrim centers. When compared to other states in India Tamilnadu has huge number of beaches with it. Most of the beaches are located in Chennai, Rameshwaram and southern regions of Tamilnadu. In the year 2004 some beaches experienced Tsunami disaster. The beaches in Cuddalore and Nagapattinam are very dangerous as many peoples dead in that beach. Beaches in Rameshwaram are most visited beach in India from other regions of Tamilnadu as it is also considered as a pilgrim center. Marina Beach Chennai is one of the famous beaches in India located in Chennai the capital of Tamilnadu. It is longest beach in Asia with 12-KM long. Horse riding is one of the best leisure activity in Marina beach. Lighthouse, Statues, sculptures of the Victory of Labour and the Mahatma Gandhi are the attraction in Marina beach. The Anna and MGR samadhi are located and in this beach. Many tourist visit this place daily. Many tourist places in Chennai are located nearer to this beach. Swimming is strictly prohibited in this place as it is a dangerous sea. You can enjoy cool breeze of Bay of Bengal. Near to Marina beach is the harbor where many big ships arrive which is mind blowing. Kaniyakumari beach

Kanyakumari is located at dead end of India as well as Tamilnadu. Kanyakumari beach has its own uniqueness as it is surrounded by three seas Bay of Bengal in the east, Indian Ocean in the South and Arabian sea in the West. It is only place in world where three seas meet each other. There are so many attraction available in Kanyakumari beach. Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thanumalayan temple or Sthanumalayan Kovil, Ghandi Memorial and Thiruvalluvar Statue are the attractions available near Kanyakumari beach. Thiruvalluvar statue can be reached only through boating and it will be awesome while travelling through boat. This is place where you can see the sunrise and sunset clearly; One can say it is the best natural scenery. Bay watch is the water theme park in Kanyakumari which is best amusement for children. Mahabaliburam beach

Mahabaliburam beach is the continuous of Marina beach. It is located in Mahabaliburam of Chennai district, Tamilnadu. This beach attracts more tourist next to marina beach. This beach is famous for sunbath, cool wind, swimming and boating. This beach is less danger when compared to marina beach. Attraction in Mahabaliburam beach are Arjuna's penance, crocodile bank, snake venom extracting centre, schools of art and sculpture and Sculptural Panels. Climate is too hot when compared to other regions in Tamilnadu. Average temperature in this region is 30 degree celcius. This place is also well known as Mamallapuram. Beach houses are famous in these area. You can find lots of attractive beach houses in this beach.

Rameshwaram beach

Rameshwaram beach is located in Ramanathapuram district of Tamilnadu. It has equal respect as holy river Kasi. Northern people visit here for thidhi (making athma peace). It is considered as holy sea. The historical epic Ramayanam takes place in this sea. This is the best pilgrim center in India. The attractions available in Rameshwaram are Sri Ramanathaswamy Temple, Dhanushkodi Temple, Hanuman Temple, Kothandaramaswamy Temple, Rama Tirtham (Gandamadana), Lakshmana Tirtham, Jatayu Tirtham, Gandhamadhana Parvatham, Badrakaliamman Temple, The Five-faced Hanuman Temple, Jada Tirtham, Nambu Nayagiamman Temple, Agnitheertham, Villoondi Tirtham, Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge. There are many island nearer to Rameshwaram such as dhanushkodi, kachatheevu, Mannar Island. Rameshwaram is well known for its bridge named Pamban paalam. Other popular beach such as Mandapam and Kurusadai island are located nearer to this Rameshwaram beach.

Covelong Beach

It is situated in Chennai district. This beach is popular next to Marina beach due to its aqua sports activities like windsurfing, swimming and other water sports. Covelong beach in Chennai has many ancient attractions such as Dutch fort, ancient Catholic Church and ancient walls. These ancient attractions admires the people visiting this covelong beach. This beach is 40 Km away from Marina beach and 19 Km away from Mahabaliburam beach. So you can easily visit all these places within a day.

Muttukkadu

Muttukadu beach is located in Kanchepuram district of Tamilnadu. This is best picnic spot in Kanchepuram. Muttukkadu beach in Kanchepuram is famous for lot of aqua sports activities such as Wind Surfing, Canoe, Kayak, Pedal Boat and Row Boat. This beach is confined with lots of aqua life such as fishes, tortoise and crabs. Leisure activities such as fishing is done regularly. Catching tortoise is strictly prohibited in this beach.

Thiruchendur

Thiruchendur is a beach as well as devotional place of Lord Muruga located in Tuticorin district. It is one of the arupadaiveedu (six homes) of Lord Muruga. Thaipusam is one of the grand festival celebrated in Thiruchendur temple. This festival has an story that Lord Muruga killed the evil asuran. Kirthikai is also one of the festival famous here. This temple is in the shape of OM (symbol of god), so it is considered as a unique temple in Tamilnadu. Nearer to Thiruchendur is Tuticorin beach. There are many beaches near to Tuticorin beach such as Muyal theevu (Rabbit Island), Manapadu. Many Freedom fighters from Tamilnadu such as V.O.Chidambaranar, Subramaniya Bharathi, Veerapandiya Kattabomman were born in Tuticorin district.
