Second Airport to Chennai at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu
The feasibility report of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) suggested that a second Airport is most important to the state of Tamil Nadu and it should be implemented near to Chennai. The ICAO also suggested that the second Airport for the city could come up at Sriperumbudur on 5000 acres of land which is very neat to the Chennai city. The proposal for the above project was already submitted to the State Government. The copy of the report also were handed over to the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, Mr.Debandranath Sarangi by Mr. V.P. Agarwal, The chairman of the Airport Authority of India (AAI).
Further, The chairman of the Airport Authority of India told that The AAI is ready to execute the project on its own. He also stated that the AAI would spend Rs. 5000 Crore to develop the runway, Terminal buildings and other facilities in the new Airport. Further, He told that the State Government has to decide whether to have a second Airport in Sriperumbudur or to create a parallel runway at the existing Airport in Chennai.
New technologies and facilities will be provided to Chennai Airport
The chairman of the Airport Authority of India also told that the new domestic terminal buildings would be ready by December 31st of this year and the International terminal also would be ready in the end of January during the next year. Further, He also told that a new advanced Ground Based Augmentation System will soon be introduced at the Chennai Airport.
