About Vallanadu Wildlife Sanctuary
Vallanadu Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Tuticorin district of Tamilnadu.This sanctuary is protected by Tamilnadu forest department. It is located at the top of small hill of Vallanadu. This is not not much popular sanctuary. There are only few sanctuaries in Tamilnadu and this is one among them. This sanctuary contains Blackbuck which is naturally available here. It is dry deciduous forest with some flora and fauna. It is also a scrub forest which covers 16.41 sq km. As it is a scrub forest it has mild winters and dry summers
Plants in Vallanadu Wildlife Sanctuary
 As it is dry deciduous forest the flora found here belongs to thorny hardwood and xerophytes family. The species found here are Dalbergia multiflora, Dichrostachys cinerea, Acacia latronum, Acacia planifrons,Albizia amara, Zizyphus . These plants do not need rainfall. These plants absorb only minimum amount of water.As it is a scrub forests the plants have adapted to survive in drought and fire. These plants have hard, waxy leaves that help the plant retain moisture.
Animals in Vallanadu Wildlife Sanctuary
The animals found in Vallanadu wildlife sanctuary are Black buck, Spotted deer, macaques, Jungle cat, Monkeys, Wild cat, Mongoose, Black naped Hare, Scaly Ant eater- Pangolin, Viper and Rat snake. This place is rich in Black buck, so this sanctuary is also called as in Vallanadu Black buck Sanctuary.
Birds in Vallanadu Wildlife Sanctuary
There are more than 100 species of birds are available. Some of the bird species are Peacock, Heron, Stork, Grey partridges, Jungle Craws, Common quails, Pied crested Cuckoo, Crested-hawk Eagle, Black-winged Kite, Curlew, Lapwing, Nightjar, Sparrows,Horned owl.
Attractions near Vallanadu Wildlife Sanctuary
 Vallanadu is located in Tuticorin district there you can find Tutucorin beach which is really a wonderfull place to spend time. There is peacock farm which is known as Mayura Thottam .
Transport to Vallanadu Wildlife Sanctuary
Nearest Railhead: Tirunelveli junction which is located 20 km away. Frequent buses to the sanctuary are available. Cars can also be hired. Tuticorin junction is also nearer to this sanctuary.
Nearest Airport: There are regular flights to Madurai, which is 165 km away. There are Air Deccan flights to Vagaikulam near Thoothukudi, which is approximately 25 km away.
Accommodation at Vallanadu Wildlife Sanctuary
There are several places in Tuticorin and Tirunelveli. From there you reach the sanctuary easily through bus or car.
