About Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary
Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Nilgris hill of Tamilnadu. This Sanctuary now declared as Tiger Reserve to control the extinct of tiger which is in endangered species list. It serves as home for other endangered species such as Indian elephants, vulnerable Gaur, and Chital. Total area of this sanctuary is 321 Sq. KM with 108 sq.KM of National Park area. Rainfall in this sanctuary ranges from 800 - 2000mm and Temperature varies from 14 degree Celcius to 33 degree Celcius. Mudumalai is well suited place for flora and fauna. Parks found in Mudumalai are Bandipur National Park and Nagarhole National Park in north, Mukurthi National Park and Silent Valley National Park in south. Mudumalai park has few reptile species such as Krait, Bamboo Pit Snake, variety of turtles, frogs and amphibians. Rarely seen reptiles in Mudumalai are Python, Flying Lizard and Spectacled Cobra. Air: The nearest airport is at Coimbatore, 160-km away. Next to Coimbatore one can choose Madurai airport.
Rail: The sanctuary is located at a distance of 65-km from Udhagamandalam railway station and 95-km from Mysore station.
Road: Gudalur (16-km) is the nearest town to the sanctuary, which is situated along the Udhagamandalam - Mysore highway. This sanctuary could be reached from Mysore as well. There are regular buses from Udhagamandalam, Mysore and the neighbouring towns to the sanctuary.
