About Yercaud

Yercaud is a cool Hill stations in Tamilnadu located in Salem district. Yercaud is a region of Shevaroys hill ranges of Eastern Ghats. Altitude of Yercaud is 1515 metres above sea level. The climate of Yercaud is cool and best place for summer vacation. Maximum climatic temperature of Yercaud is 29 degree celcius and Minimum temperature is 13 degree celcius. Coffee, oranges, bananas, pears and jack are the trees found and cultivated in Yercaud. This is beautiful tourist place in Tamilnadu found by british while ruling India in 19th century. Minimum rainfall measured in yercaud is 1500 mm and maximum rainfall measured is 2000 mm. Here you can experience the season throughout the year. Lake view

Yercaud Lake is the first attracted place by all tourists. This is natural lake as found in all hill station. This lake is well know as emerald lake. The garden surrounded by this lake is main attraction. One can enjoy boating is available in this lake. This lake is surrounded by parks such as Anna Park, Lake Park, Gandhi Park and Children's Park.

Lady's seat

Lady's Seat is the viewpoint in Yercaud. It is the best viewpoint in Yercaud with a telescope to watch and enjoy the scenery of Yercaud clearly. During night you can look at the lights of Salem as stars in the sky. You can experience a best view at night. From there you can see the
Mettur Dam located at the banks of river Kaveri. Best time to visit this location is 4.00 PM, at this time you can see the sun rays reflected on river.

Killiyur water falls

Killiyur Waterfalls in Yercaud is a beutifull 300 feet height waterfall. This place is nearer to yercaud lake. The distance between yercaud lake and this waterfalls is just 3 Kms. During monsoon season water level in this falls is maximum. This water falls looks like Agaya gangai which is located at Kolli hills. This is amazing tourist place regularly watched by every one.

Grange

GRANGE is a building that looks like castle. This castle was built by the then Collector of Salem, Mr.M.D. Cockburn. It is considered as the summer resort of Robert Clive - The British Big Wig of the East India Company way back in the late 1800's.

Pagoda point

Pagoda Point is another viewpoint in Yercaud located at the eastern part of Yercaud hills. This is constructed by four piles of stone which looks like pyramid. It is considered that this building is built by early tribal's of Yercaud. From there one can look at the beautiful cliffs during early morning and late evening. A small village Kakambadi can be seen clearly through this view point. This is also called as gents seat this is risky place to reach. This place has been protected by government, you need have valid permission to enter this viewpoint.

Bears cave

Bear's Cave in Yercaud located on the way of Servaroyan Temple. This cave is private property owned by someone. But he is kind-hearted fellow allows every visitors to visit this place. This cave is considered as the homes of Bears. In history this cave is denoted as hideout of King Tippu sultan during the time of war. This is some how a long cave with 100 meters beyond this boulders block the way.

Temple

Yercaud Servarayan Temple located at the peak of Yercaud hills. This is the highest point of Yercaud. Festivals are celebrated in this temple in the month of may. Don't miss this place, this temple is build inside a huge rock. Everyone need to bend to get inside this temple due to low height. There is also story for this short height. Local people believe that this god is bodyguard for 50 villages around the yercaud hills. Near this temple therei is amman temple called Raja Rajewsari temple.

How to reach yercaud by air :
The nearest airport is in Trichy – 163 kms. Other options are Coimbatore or Bangalore for convenient air connections. Coimbatore is 190 kms away. They are all connected to Chennai, which has a well integrated international airport. Trichy is also connected to Colombo (Sri Lanka).

How to reach yercaud by Train :
Best train available to yercaud is Yercaud Express from Chennai. Salem is 335 km from Chennai on the main railway line. Salem Junction is 36 Kms away from Yercaud and 33 kms from Salem Town.
