Coimbatore Botanical Garden was started in the year 1908 and it was developed into a modern Horticultural Park in Coimbatore. There are nearly 700 species of plants and trees in the garden, most of them being of ornamental value. The Sunken garden, a cascading waterway, Japanese ornamental garden, topiary garden and a paddling pool are the main tourist attractions in Coimbatore Botanical Garden.
Lower Bhavani Dam in Coimbatore
The distance of Lower Bhavani Dam from Coimbatore is 70km. This is one of the major irrigation projects of the state. The reservoir called Bhavani sagar, created across the river Bhavani covers a vast area. The Lower Bhavani Dam traversing a length of 8km. In this reservoir also, a cruise by motor launch is a rewarding experience. The Shiva temple of Sangameshwara is situated at the confluence of the river Cauvery with Bhavani which is a popular place of worship. Amaravati Dam is located in the distance of 85km from Coimbatore. This dam is situated in Udumalpet taluk. The dam has been built in the joining point of plains and the surrounding hill.
