Mylapore Mundaka Kanniamman Temple Mundakam Means Lotus. Mundaka kanni amman name was formed because Amman has been manifested herself as a Suyambu near Lotus pond. In Mylapore there was a Lotus Tank near Kabalishwarar Temple, where there was a banyan tree in the bank of Lotus pond. Ambal manifested herself as Suyambu. In early day's devotees of Ambal built a hut to Ambal, later they built a temple. But even today, Ambal Sanathi alone in a hut. This place looks like a Lotus Pud, so she is called as Mundaka Kanniamman. There is a belief that, In Muntaka Kanni amman Tempel, Ambal holds the power of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma. Here ambal with a Snake Crown, and has two hands. Ambal is in sitting posture, there are two Duvara Balaki on the top of Ambal's Vimanam.

Devootees who has Ragu, Kethu Dosam will come and perform Abisek to Nagadevathi with Milk, rose water and Trumeric will get remedy from Dosam. In Main Sanctum (Sanathi) Ambal sitting in Simha (Lion) Vahanam. There are two Lions in two sides of Ambal. In the main court (Prakaram) there are Sapta Kannigal- Brahmi, Maheswari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Kaumari, Indirani and Chamundi are appeared in Lingam form.
From Moring 6 to 11.30 there is abishek to ambal, during abishek time alone ambal gave Suyambu Tharsana. Rs. 150/- collected as entry fees to see this abishek. The special Abishek is "Anna Abishek", this abishek is been performed only in Shiva Temples, but here Ambika considered as Lord Parvathi, so Anna Abishek is also performed here for Ambal.
During the tamil month "Thai" there is 108 Lamp Pooja is celebrated on last Friday of Chitra Pournami day. On Last Friday of Tamil month "Adi" there is 1008 flower abishek will be performed. These are the special poojas in Muntaka Kanniamman Temple.
