This resource is about Sri Andal temple at Srivilliputtur. It is one of the 108 divya desams i.e.108 thirupathis. In this place Sri Boomadevi incarnated as Sri Andal and married Sri Ranganathar. The symbol of Tamilnadu government is the gopuram of Srivilliputtur temple.

Srivilliputtur is in Virudhunagar district and is about 75 km from Madurai. There are two temples one for Sri Vadabathrasayee and the other for Sri Andal-Rangamannar.

    Periazhwar

Periazhwar, also called as Vishnu chittar, was one of the twelve azhwars who were the composers of the "Naalayira Divya Prabandham". He lived in Srivilliputtur, in South India. His daily routine was to make garland from the flowers of his garden and offer it to Lord Mahavishnu. He also composed divine hymns in praise of Lord Mahavishnu. Impressed by his great devotion, Shri Bhoomadevi, the consort of Lord Mahavishnu liked to be a daughter for Periazhwar. She lay in the form of a child under a Tulasi plant in his garden. Periazhwar found her and decided to brought up her as his own child. He named her as "Kothai". She grew up with great devotion to Lord Mahavishnu. She also composed divine hymns like her father.

    Sri Andal - Rangamannar Thirukalyanam

Sri Kothai's aim was to marry Lord Mahavishnu, which was clearly exposed in her hymns, called "Natchiyar Thirumozhi", a part of Naalayira Divya Prabandham. She daily used to have for sometime the floral garland, prepared for the Lord by his father, on her shoulder. One day, his father found that and got angry with her. But the Lord told him that the garland adorned by his daughter was very much liked by him. HE also ordered that only the garland adorned by her should be offered to HIm. Hence the names "Soodi Kodutha Sudarkodi" and "Andal" for her.

Sri Andal conducted "Paavai Nonbu", by composing a divine hymn for each day in the month of "Marghazi" for the realisation of her wish to marry the Lord. These 30 hymns are called as "Thiruppavai". She also dreamed about her marriage with the Lord and composed hymns about it. The Lord ordered Periazhwar to bring Sri Andal to Srirangam, where the Lord is in the form of Ranganatha, Periazhwar did so and Sri Andal became one with the Lord. As per Periazhwar's wish, Sri Ranganatha came to Srivilliputtur as Sri Rangamaanr in Garuda vahana and married Sri Andal there.
