The Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu (Tamil: கோயம்புத்தூர்) is one of the district of Tamil Nadu also known as Kovai which serves as the administrative headquarters of Coimbatore district. Coimbatore is the third largest city of Tamil Nadu. The name Coimbatore comes from the Irula tribal chief named Kovan who ruled coimbatore earlier and a new village was formed and they called it as 'Kovanputhur' which then over the years came to be known as 'Coimbatore'.
