Nanganallur adds one more feather to its cap, this time it's due to the new Roller Skating Rink coming up in Nanganallur. Temple Town as Nanganallur has been known so long is developing fast and is no longer left behind commercially too as it poses all the new brands of the town from Reebok showrooms to well known shops of brands already established like Durable Chrome Factory, JFA Furniture, Rasi silks, Heritage Fresh and so on, the list is endless.
Kids and young children of Nanganallur area are eagerly awaiting the opening of the Roller Skating Rink in Nanganallur which is expected to take place in the month of June 2011, the Alandur Municipality has allotted around 12,000 square feet open ground at 100 Feet Road near the Civil Aviation colony of Nanganallur, Kota stone tiles are being used at the rink and the work is progressing rapidly as it is nearing the completion.
Many have shown a welcome gesture towards this development as a sign of promoting Skating as a sport, as usually people are inclined only towards cricket or tennis for that matter, even students and parents of Nanganallur are excited to have a different sports facility in Nanganallur. It is also being considered as a stress buster activity of Nanganallur in Chennai. Currently children around this place are practicing skating at the road between the Thillaiganga Nagar subway and GST road.
Roller Skating Rink at Nanganallur is first of its kind which falls under the Kanchipuram District which is being built at a cost of Rs31 lakhs which includes Rs15 lakhs contributed by the local MLA who is the State Labour Minister, TM Anbarasan from his constituency development fund and the remaining is being funded by the Municipality.
Nanganallur Roller Skaters Development Association secretary B Hariprasad acknowledged the timely and prompt action by the State government and Municipality on the request to build a rink in Nanganallur which is going to go live very soon, the rink size is around 325 feet long and 30 feet wide making it the longest skating rink of Tamilnadu in Nanganallur, Chennai.
The skating rink will have two dressing rooms and toilets facilities along with an office room, it will be open for kids of age more than two and a half years old, there is also news that the skating rink is going to be made open for all without any charges for whoever is interested in the sport.
