Helmet rule made compulsory in Chennai, Tamilnadu

In Tamilnadu order has been issued to make the helmet rule compulsory from 28th May 2011 as going by the statistics which states that many accidents have proved fatal due to head injuries as people fail to war helmet when they are riding two wheelers, read on to find out more details on the same.

Helmet rule in Chennai was made compulsory earlier too but it was not that much effective as it is in other major city like bangalore where it is being followed strictly, it only benefitted the Police of Chennai for a certain period of time to collect pocket money in the name of fine, which this time around I feel should change as the news goes around us that it is going to be effective this time from Saturday 28th May 2011, wherein failing to which there will be fine of Rs50.

Whether the rule is a there or not it is always safe to wear a helmet when you are riding a two wheeler for your own safety, it is even better to make the pillion rider wear a helmet too to save his life too as accidents may happen in any form affecting all the people involved in the accident, so it is always better to take a precaution than to feel sorry later. There may be exemptions like last time for women riders for various reasons but in own interest it would be better to wear helmet instead of just taking advantage of the rule which is actually not an advantage.

According to last year 2010 statistics data there were a minimum of 255 people killed in road accidents who were riding two wheelers and in the first four months of 2011 it was reported to be as 108 such cases which made the officials to think on the important of wearing a helmet to interest of the public as 95% of the death cases were reported due to head injury.

Now it is in the hands of the police to make it a success and it is heard that this time it is going to be followed as a strict rule as police officials will be deployed at every signal and major care will be taken at the roads which are more prone to accidents in the past. Police officials of Chennai are going to record the data of riders violating rules and they will be caught at the next signal by the officials there which need to work as per plan.

As for every matter there will be a concern this time also people are raising their concerns like whether Rs50 fine will work wonders being a meager amount to be charged for people to teach them a lesson, it is left to the time to tell us changes in the rule.

So what next it's going to be a hot season for the Helmet vendors as they will make huge money in the coming days and will be in business if the rule is continued effectively, who knows may be there is a trick in involved in this like last time around when the rule was implemented it only benefited hugely the helmet vendors as huge volume of sales was seen but the rule was not followed effectively by the public as well as the riders.

One more important thing is that there may be also strict rule on the two wheeler's number plate which if found to be tampered or fancy will attract action accordingly, which is as of now a vague matter, which according to me should be followed as they distract a lot of other riders as while driving we tend to read the lines written in small fonts out of curiosity. It's the same with the big banners of big brands which make heads turn while driving and lose their attention. All this area needs some thought and action.

Its time Chennai poses its Helmet fashion, as you can surely see among the riders there will be fancy riders with big helmets on their head with designs ranging from Fire Dragon, Skelton Skull, Logos of all the popular brands to helmets which resembles head of the character featuring in the kids entertainment channel named Jetix.

As the popular saying goes Wear Helmet or be Hell Met.
