    Lord Muruga is called as Kuzhanthai Kadavul. As per our ancient epics lord muruga destroy asuras and save us from sad. There is a believe that, Lord Muruga will not punish devotees even they do some mistakes, but he make them realise their mistakes. Devotees of Lord Muruga do you want to know about Ettudi Subraminayar Swamy Temple near Tanjavore. This article will help you to know about Ettudi Temple and i tried to provide bus route also.


    Ettukudi Subramaniya swamy Temple, Tanjavore


    Sri Subramaniya Swamy Temple at Ettukudi is suited 30 kms south west from Nagapattinam and 28 Kms south east from Tajavore. As per legend, once there was a king of savage, Named Surapathma. He is a devotee of Lord Siva, made penance for long time at last Lord Shiva appeared in front of him and he gave boon. Using that, Surabathma made all Devas imprisoned in cluding Indiran, creation God. At once, All Devas prayed Lord Shiva to save them, Lord Shiva appeared infront of them and he said he couldn't withdraw the boon given to Surabathman, but he gave some remedy to regain their power. That was All devas advised to go to earth by changing their form into birds, where they will get back their original form and they have to do penance to get back their power. As per Lord Shiva's Order All Devas went to earth as bird, they got embodied of human beings in the place where the sun or "Gnayiru" rise. This place is called as Thalai Gnayiru this place is just about 10 kms from Ettukudi. Devas reached Ettivankadu, a forest there they met a saint named Vanmeega Sithar, he was in penance. He helped devas to do penance. Vanmeega Sidar said them to perform yagam using Vanni Tree, and he taught Mandras to them to call Lord Shiva. As the result of that yagam, Lord Shiva sent Lord Muruga to Ettukudi to save Devas. Goddess parvathi asked him to perform penance to get rid of all problems, following her mother's suggestion, Lord Muruga undergone penance. At the mean time Asuras tried to disturb Lord Muruga, but Goddess Parvathi prevent Lord Muruga from all disturbance with her five embodies. After a long penance Goddess Parvathi gave an Arrow to Lord Muruga to destroy Surabathman in the place Siccal. Using that Arrow he chased surabathman and killed him in Tiruchendur. This incident is called Surasamharam . The place where Lord Muruga got Arrow from Parvathi is Ettukudi. One of the Chola Kings, Mutharasan built a temple in that place for Lord Muruga.

    Ettukudi Murugan TempleLord Muruga in Ettukudi Subramaniya Swamy Temple, is very nice idol. Lord Muruga idol with 6 faces and 12 hands sitting on Peacock. Peacock is vehicle of Lord Muruga, here Lord Muruga called as Sikkal Singaravelavar. 12 Hands of Muruga holding weapons and entire idol of Lord Muruga balanced by two legs of Peacock this is very special in this idol. Main entrance of this temple has Kanda Valaivu , Arch shaped entrance. Other Sculptures in this temple are Vinayagar, Ammaiappan Soundara Nayakar sannidhi, Srinivasa Soundararaja Perumal, Anjaneya, Manonmani Ammai, Ayappan, Mahalakshmi and Navagrahas.

    Festivals Associated with Ettukudi Subramaniya swamy Temple, Tanjavore


    Karthigai festival is famous festival associated with Ettukudi Subramaniya swamy Temple . Special pooja and celebration will be held in this day. During this day procession will be held through the streets with Muruga Deity. Seventh day of the festival Lord Muraga Thirukalyanam will be held.

    Chithira Pouranami festival is another festival celebrated grandly in Ettukudi Subramaniya Swamy Temple. During this Festivals devotees of Lord Muruga will take Kavadi, Paal kudam and they perform some special pooja and Archana.
    Panguni Uthiram, Surasamharam are other festival associated with Ettukudi Subramaniya Swamy temple.
