Government College of Technology Coimbatore -13. Also known as GCT is a very famous institution over Tamil Nadu.It has been awarded 'The Best college of Tamil Nadu' recently.Lets see some of its features.This pride institution has a great history and it has produced many magnificent engineers throughout India.

GOVERNMENT COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY,COIMBATORE also known as GCT

History of the college:

• This well reputed institution was formed by the well known Scientist Late Shri.G.D.Naidu in 1945,July and was named as Arthur Hope College of Technology and it was reconstructed in a permanent area of about 45 acres and started to begin its debut as GOVERNMENT COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY from 1951.

• In 1959 the main building of the college was opened by Dr.Radhakrishnan, former vice president of India.

• During (1968- 1969) five year semester scheme was introduced
and 3 year course for B.Sc courses in Mechanical & Civil Engineering was introduced but it was abolished later.

• During 1970-1971 Electronics and communication Engineering was started.

• In 1971, PG courses for Structural engineering and Engineering Design were started and lateral entry for diploma courses for B.E. Civil and Mechanical
and Electrical were started.

• During 1978-1979 B.E. Degree course for Production Engineering was started.

• The B.E. semester scheme has been rescheduled to four year scheme with the entry of 10+2 scheme during 1980-1981.

• During 1980-81 : PG course for Electronics and production Engineering was started.

1981-82 : M.E. degree for Public health was started
1982-83 : M.Sc., degree in Chemistry came into existence
1984-85 : B.E. degree for Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering was started.
1986-87 : B.E. degree in Computer Science & Engineering was started.
1987-88 : M.E. degree in computer science was started.(Part time)
1990-91 : M.E. degree in Computer Science was started.(Full Time)
2001-02 : B.E. in Information Technology was started.
2001-02 : All the UG, PG courses were affiliated to Anna University.

At present it serves as an Autonomous institution.
