    St. George Fort is one of the historical place at chennai, every one have a look at this. This is suited near by Chennai High Court and Chennai University. Inside this Fort there is a excellent Church. This Article will give history of St. George Fort and its historical importance.


    History of St. George Fort, Chennai, Tamil Nadu


    St. George Fort in Chennai is one of the historical Places in Chennai built by British East India Company in the year 1639. St. George Fort was built by the East India Company for establishing their business all over the world. The East India Company came to india in 1600 for trading. First they started trading at surat. To establish and secure their spices business they purchased a land in Chennirayarpattinam or Channapatnam and built a fort that is St. George Fort. This fort is well built and this is an example of Indian Architecture technology. This fort has 6 meters height walls around. There is St. Mary's Church; Museum and Clive house is inside the campus of St. George Fort. From the year 1920 to 2010 the Fort was used as Head quarters of Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. One new building built in 2010 for Legislative Assembly by Tamil Nadu Government Head Quarters was transferred to the New Secretariat.

    St. George FortSt.Mary's Church in George Fort, Chennai was built by Mr. Streynsham Master, who was appointed as a Agent for East India company in 1678. Till that year there was no religious place inside the Fort, so he planned to built a church inside Fort campus and he started work in March 1678 and the constraction completed in the year 1680.

    St. George Museum in Chennai was opened to public from January 1948. This museum has collections of objects given British. Now this Museum developed by collections of ancient Indian things and object overall it has more than 3600 collections. The antiquities are displayed in this Museum in ten galleries over three floors. Collection of uniforms of various ranks in British Army are displayed in this Museum.
    Entrance Fees to St. George Museum : Rs. 5 for Indian and Rs.100/- for Others
    No charges will be charged for Children upto 15 years
    Time to Visit : 10:00 am to 05:00 pm (Friday Closed)

    It will be noted as great remark in Tamilnadu Politics today. Yes Selvi J. Jeyalalitha again got her honorable chair in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, and she ignored to enter new Secretriat. So Today, 16.05.2011 onwards St. George Fort again got the great name Head Quarters of Tamilnadu Legislative Assembly
