Tamilnadu congress committee chief Thangabalu has resigned from his post after his embarrassing defeat in the Tamilandu assembly elections 2011. The Congress party had a severe drubbing in this election 2011. Read the article below to know more details about this information.

Tamilnadu congress committee chief Thankgabalu resigns from his post

Taking responsibility for the Tamilandu assembly elections 2011 debacle TNCC chief Thangabalu resigned from his post. Thangabalu who contested from the mylapore constituency lost to AIADMK candidate Rajalakshmi by a margin of 29,000 votes. It is to be noted that Congress which contested in 63 seats was able to win only in 5 seats. Due to the poor performance of congress in this election he had decided to resign from the post of TNCC party president. Thangabalu would be sending his resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi the AICC president.

Thangabalu had problems with his own party workers the day he nominated his wife to contest the mylapore constituency in the election 2011. Many party workers feel that he deliberately missed submitting valid papers for his wife's during nomination. He also ensured that he submitted his nomination as a dummy candidate so that he can contest the election after his wife's nomination was rejected. Many party workers had gone beserk and they even burnt the effigy fo Thangabalu for the way he entered this election. also. many in the congress party feel that Thangabalu selected candidates of his choice in all the 63 seats. He had not consulted any of the state level senior members or the party workers before finalizing the list.

Thangabalu had earlier expelled 19 party workers for anti party activities before the election polls. S.V. Sekhar and Karate Thiagarajan are the prominent members who were expelled for anti party activities. This prompted both of them to work against Thangabalu in the assembly election 2011. Thankgabalu had earlier contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections and had lost it too. These two successive blows and his image decline among his party workers had prompted him to submit his resignation.

It would be interesting to see who would be the next TNCC president and how he will handle the Congress party workers.
