Moreover the rock is about 83 meters high.

History of Ucchi pillayar temple

The history of Ucchi pillayar temple is associated with Ramayana. It is believed that after the end of Ramayana and the defeat of Ravana Lord Rama presented a Vinayaga statue to Vibhishana. He told him not to put it on land. Later Vibhishana gave the Vinayaga statue to a cowherd boy. When he went for a bath and was under water the boy left the statue on sand and ran away. When Vibhisana saw the boy running , he chased him and pushed him with his hand . The changed in the the shape of Vinayaga lord making Vibhisna realize that he was lord Vinayaga. He apologized him and later on his memory the Temple was built.

People believe that Pallavas made the temple. Later the work of completion of the construction of Ucchi pillayar temple was performed by the Nayaks from Madurai Tamilnadu.

There are two parts of the Ucchi pillayar temple. First part is Vinayagar temple of Ucchi pillayar temple and the second one is the Lord Shiva temple of Ucchi pillayar temple. The architecture of the temple is very beautiful and it shows that people had a lot of architectural skills at that time too. The temple has been built on a rock and it makes it one of the amazing constructions in the world. The temple has a very good view and provides peace and satisfaction to the eye when looked.
