Velayutham is said to be the remake of Telugu movie Azad. The movie Azad was done by Nagarjuna paired with Shilpa Shetty. It was a hit film that prompted the director Raja to do it in Tamil with Vijay as the lead actor. The film shooting had been done in Pollachi and Paalakkad and it is in near completion stage.Vijay Antony's music for Velayuthamis such a hit that it was loved by all the cast and crew of Velayutham. The music was much talked about after Sony music got audio rights of Velayutham for a record sum of money.

Story of Vijay's new tamil movie Velayutham

Deva is a bad guy who acts as if he is a good person by following the principles of Bhagavath Geetha, Genelia knows about Deva and is frustrated that the society is believing him without knowing his true nature. One day Genelia happens to see a group of bad guys dying in an accident. She immediately makes up a fictious character called as Velayutham and makes people believe that Velayutham is the one who killed the bad guy. Soon the name Velayutham spreads like fire and people praise Velayutham whenever a bad guy is eliminated.

Meanwhile the real Velayutham is a peaceful and fun loving guy living with his widow mother and sister in a village. His cousin sister is Hansika Motwani. Vijay had deposited the amount he earned in a chit fund in Chennai. As his sister's marriage is fixed he comes to Chennai to withdraw the amount from the chit fund. when he arrives to Chennai he is caught in a serial of bomb blasts but escapes unhurt from each one of them. Soon the news spread that he is the Velayutham who killed the bad guys. Genelia happens to meet the real Velayutham and tells how the fictious Velayutham was born. But Velayutham was not interested to invole in this and goes to to chit fund office to withdraw money for his sister's marriage.

When he reaches the chit fund office he comes to know that it is a fraud company and they had cheated many people. Many people who came to know about it had committed suicide. Velayutham was also a victim of this cheating and he vows to take on the culprits and becomes the real hero Velayutham. He begins to carry each and every work done by the fictional character in real life. In
the event he comes to know that Deva is not only a bad guy but also a muslim terrorist.

The final sequence reveals how Velayutham exposes Deva and saves innocent people.
