    Tamil New Year 2012 Celebration in Tamil Nadu


    The Tamil New Year's day comes off in mid-April in the Tamil month Tamil New Year 2012 Panjangam PujaChithirai. For Tamilians it is an auspicious occasion for everyone around the world. According to Hindu mythology it is the day when Lord Brahma started to create the world. The marriage of Goddess Meenakshi to Lord Sundareswarar is celebrated as 'Chitthirai festival'.

    People get up early on this day and everything is kept cleaned and the deck of the doors are decorated with leaves of mango. People believes on the day of Tamil New year viewing the 'kanni' (auspicious things) at the dawn will bring some good fortune to them throughout that year. Jewellery made of gold and silver, fruits and nuts, coconuts and raw rice are considered as auspicious things.

    Tamil New Year Kolams


    After early bath, Special Tamil New Year Kolams are drawn in front of the house and in the central courtyard and the vilakku kolam is the more popular one during the new year. Some people used to put rangoli kolams. The kolams with vibrant colours adds more beauty to the festival and the Tamil kolam designs portrays the traditional culture of Tamil Nadu.

    Tamil New Year 2012 (Kara Year) Panchangam(Almanac)


    People used to do 'Panchanga Puja' on this day. First they will keep the Tamil Panchagam (Kara Year) 2012(Almanac) in front of the deity and they will perform puja by offering flowers and do puja. Some people will make traditional visit to and worship at temple where they gather to listen to the Tamil Panchangam to know about Tamil New Year Predictions such as prices for crops, quantity of rainfall, forecast for countries progress on the coming year etc.

    Significance of Tamil New Year Festival Recipe


    Tamil New Year Festival Recipe Mangai Pachadi - a dish made with raw mangoes, neem flowers and jaggery is the highlights of the festival is made on this day which is eaten on empty stomach. The dish is somewhat like sweet, sour and bitter which signifies the different aspects of life and that we have to accept the truth of life with all its kinds of flavors.

    People who can afford the money buy new dress and wear it on this day and Tamil New Year Greetings are exchanged on this day by saying each other 'Iniya Tamizh Puthaandu Nalvaazhthukkal'. People used to send Tamil Greeting Cards for Tamil New Year 2012 to their families and friends on this day.

    Tamil new year's day is declared as a public holiday in Tamil Nadu and all the Tamil television channels such as Sun TV, Jaya TV, Kalignar TV, Raj TV, Vijay TV etc will telecast Tamil new year (Chithirai Thirunal)2012 special programs. People spend the day in leisure enjoy watching the special programs on new year with their family.

    People used to take care not to offend or quarrel on this day in the fear that the things performed on this day might repeat throughout the year. Over all the Tamil New Year Celebration in Tamil Nadu is celebrated with great enthusiasm.
