Thirukural was originally written in Tamil language by Thiruvalluvar, a Tamil poet. The other names of Thiruvalluvar are Deiva pulavar, Poyyamozhi pulavar, senna pothar and gnana vettiyan. Some traditional stories are telling that he was born in Mylapore which is also called mailai in Chennai. This Mylapore is now famous for Kapaleeswarar temple.
Thirukural is the oldest Tamil literature and it helps as a guide for our daily life. We should go through all the thirukural. The Tamil language is famous and it is one of the reason why the tamil language is famous.
Sections of Thirukural Thirukural has three sections: 1. Porutpal 2. Arathupal 3. Inbathupal or Kamathupal
Thirukural consists of 1330 couplets which is comprised of 133 chapters as each of 10 couplets. Each couplet gives a great meaning which everyone should follow in their life.
For example a kural says "Vellathanayadhu malar neetam mandhar tham ullathanayadhu uyarvu" meaning : Water flowers stalks will proportionate to the lever of water, like that people's action is proportionate to their thought process
Another kural says "Inna seithar oruthul avar naana nannayam seidhu vidal" Meaning: If anyone made a harm to us, we should do good self to them instead taking revenge. This will make them to feel guilty.
Such a way that Thirukural gives lovely meanings which was essential to our life. Thirukural was translated to so many languages like Bengali, Burmese, Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, Fijian, Finnish, French, German, Gujarati, Hindi, Japanese, Kannada, Latin, Malay, Malayalam, Oriya, Punjabi, Polish, Rajasthani, Russian, Sanskrit, Sourashtra, Sinhala, Swedish, Telugu and Urdu. This shows how much people are giving importance. The Tamilnadu government also honoured the poet by placing a statue at near Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Kanyakumari South India.
So everyone should read this thirukural in their language and understand the meaning. This will improve our standard of life.
