    Get to know the important details about the Importance of Tamilnadu Madhurai temple Azhagar Koil.

    Azhagar Koil is one among the 108 Vaishnavite divya desams(i.e) 108 Tirupathis. It is nearly 20 km away from Madurai district. The temple is situated at the foot of the Azhagar hills. It is also known as "Thirumalirunsolai".

    Here Lord Vishnu is being worshipped in the names of "Paramaswamy" (the main deity), Kallazhager and Sundararajar (the utsava deity). In this temple, Goddess Mahalakshmi is in the name of "Kalyana Sundaravalli Thayar". The Vimana of the sanctum sanctorum is fully gold plated.

    A closed door with 18 steps is found at the main entrance of the temple. This door is being worshipped with offerings of sandal paste as "Lord Karuppanasamy" who is believed to be the guardian for this temple. "Pazhamuthirsolai" the sixth "Arupadai veedu" of Lord Muruga is also situated on this hills. The waterfall named "Noopura Ganga" is on this hills. When Lord Vishnu measured the earth with his one foot and the sky with his other foot, Lord Brahma washed his foot with Ganga water and the water drops splashed from the anklet(noopuram) of Lord Vishnu is flowing here as Noopura Ganga. Taking bath in this holy water will make one free from all his sins.

    There are many festivals in Tamilnadu and some of the festivals are conducted through out the year, in this temple, of which "Chitra Festival" (April/May) is very famous one. During this festival, Sri Kallazhagar will visit Madurai. It is said that Sri Kallazhagar comes to relieve "Mandooga Maharishi" from the curse. Also the people in and around Madurai get the divine darshan of Sri Kallazhagar during these days.
