    Tamil Culture and Traditions in Tamil Dramas


    Culture and tradition followed in Tamilnadu is unique and beautiful. The culture life in rural Tamilnadu is follows a simple pattern. The village drama is a dynamic institution. The stage for the open air theatre made of bamboo or woven coconut leaves can come up in a village at a moment's notice Dramatic activity is one in which everyone in the village lends a hand. Almost every villages in Tamilnadu has a drama unit. Harikatha performances are very common in almost all the temples in Tamilnadu. These are one man performances and present famous devotional tales through music and narration.

    Music in Tamilnadu is very popular known as Carnatic music it is practices all over the state. The famous annual Thyagaraja Aradhana at Tiruvauyaru near Thanjavur attracts thousands of renowned music lovers and many famous musicians from all parts of the state. Tamil classical music is another branch of music practiced in Tamilnadu. The folk music is the highlight in tamil music, which includes Villu Paattu, Therukoothu music, Bommalaattam music , Karagaattam music and the recently added is Gana music in Tamilnadu.

    Tamil Culture and Traditions in Temple occasions


    The precincts of the temples were often the only venue for public entertainment. Wrestling matches, music and dancing enlivened the special occasion of temple ceremony. The rich and the poor alike had the benefit of these entertainments. During Tamilnadu temple festivities, travelers and pilgrims were given free food and lodging. Thus, rest houses, Choultries and Dharmashalas were attached to the temples.

    Festivals are important aspect of the life of people in Tamilnadu. A temple festival was an occasion of great social rejoicing and people gathered from all surrounding towns and villages for the celebrations. Pongal festival in January is a major festival throughout the state. The car festival of Srigangam, Kanchipuram and floating festival Madurai attracts many pilgrims and visitors. In addition, there are a number of festivals attached to several temples throughout Tamilnadu.

    Tamilnadu Art and Crafts Culture


    Many places in Tamilnadu are well known for some craft peculiar to the place. Silky mat of Pattamadai, handspun silk and cotton fabrics, cotton silk sarees of Madurai, Erode and Kanchipuram are world famous. The bell metal and brass ware, cast oil lamps stands are made at Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and nearby places. Tamilnadu art and craft Items are exported to some foreign countries. We can get an idea about Tamil Culture and Traditions through Tamil dramas, music, festival and crafts.
