About Coimbatore

Originally coimbatore district formed part of Kongu country. Coimbatore was ruled by Raja Raja Chola,he is one the king in Chola dynasty. After Chola's kingdom this kongu contry was occupied by Chalukyas and then by Pandyas. Coimbatore is famous for its siruvani water and textiles. Coimbatore city is near by ooty and palakad, so people in coimbatore can feel the breeze of these cities and climate of coimbatore is very nice when compared with other cities in tamilnadu.

Sightseeing at Coimbatore - Marudamalai Temple

Maurdamalai Murugan Temple is suited 15 kms from Coimbatore at the height of 500feet in a plateau on the Western Ghats. This temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga, here he is called as Dandayuthapani. There is a shrine called Paambatti Sitthar Kugai in this temple, as per legend Paambatti Sitthar lived in this place, who is one of the most notable 18 Sitthars in Tamil Nadu. The Marudham tree is the Stala viriksham (sacred tree of the shrine). In this hill lot of medicinal herbs are there, so there is believe to remove both physical and mental afflictions once we come to this temple. This is because of the breeze from this medicinal herbs.

Sightseeing at Coimbatore - Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park

Indira Gandhi Wildlife Santuary and National Park is located in Comibatore lies in the Western Ghats Anaimalai with 958 Sq.kms. It has huge number of unseen variety of flowers, animals and trees. Topslip is the best tourist place in this Santuary, where Ample Accommodation, Vehicle Ride, Elephant Ride and Nature Walk are provided. There is several Trek routes are available in this sanctuary, but prior notice of fortnight is necessary.
Topslip trek of 12 kms takes 5 hrs. It is best done during September – March. It is a trek for animal and bird watching.
Akkamalai-Thanakka malai and Fishing hut Trek climb to a distance of 10 kms and climbing down for 20 kms takes 7 hrs. Best time to this trek during June.Fishing hut in this route is very exciting site.
Monkey falls this route is dark forest route. We can see exciting falls and animals.
Varagaliar – Kurampalliar, shoal, Perrunkundru Malai 7 hrs trek route best done during September- March. During this route we can see Lion Tailed Macaque and Nilgiri Langur. Forest Rest House at Varagaliar will be the camping site.

Sightseeing at Coimbatore - Dhyanalinga Temple

Dhyanalinga Temple is situated 30 kms from Coimbatore at the foot hills of Velliangiri Mountains. This Dhyanalinga was constructed by Sadhguru Jagadish Vasudev, who born in Mysore in a traditional family. His guru was Shri Raghavendra Rao popularly known as "Malladihalli Swami". Sadhguru began to learn Yoga at the age of thirteen and he started business in his twenty years. Though he is a successful businessman his mind feels restless and he wants to fulfill his guru's dream, that's why he constructed the Dhyanalinga in Velliangiri Mountains. At last Sadhguru Jagadish Vasudev makes true his guru's dream in the year 1999 November. Dhyanalinga was consecrated through an intense process of Prana Prathista (Process of consecration an object through divine energy), energies of all the seven chakras(The seven main points or junctions in energy body) were raised to the very peak and locked. It is expected that the energies of the Dhyanalinga will not reduce at least 5000 years. This Dhyanalinga is very beautiful and once we go inside this room we can feel the silent, mind will feel energy. Once you do meditation there is a distance between you and your body and mind. This brings excellent experience like we can feel our stress and mental depression will gone out. Everyone should visit this temple at least once in their life time.

Sightseeing at Coimbatore - Kovai Kuttralam

Kovai Kuttralam is one of the most beautiful place located 37 kms from Coimbatore. The Siruvani River which flows in the Siruvani hills which is called as kovai kuttralam. Siruvani water is crystal clear so it is protected by the government. The falls surrounded by a forest and gardens. Tourist are not allowed after 5 pm.

Sightseeing at Coimbatore – Perur Patteeswarar Temple

Patteeswarar Temple is located 6 kms from Coimbatore . This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, here he is called as Patteeswarar and the Goddess of this temple is Parvathi here she is called as Pachai Amman This temple was built by Karigala cholan, who is the famous king in Cholas dynasty. As per Legend "Patti" was the daughter of divine cow "Kamadhenu". One day while playing the calf's legs hits on the hard object and it got injured. People dig the place where the calf hit and found the "Siva Lingam". The blood of calf secreted on the head of Lingam. So Siva Lingam stayed there and Temple was built by the King. There is a reference about this temple in our old Tamil poem Devaram which is sung by Appar and Sundarar. There are 5 holy tanks in Temple called Jnana, Vapi, Kodi Theertham, Tapa keni and Teppakulam. Panguni Uthiram Festival is very famous festival in this temple, which is celebrated in the month of March every year.

Other sightseeing places at coimbatore are Aliyar Dam, Thirumuthi Falls, Ayyappan temple etc.
