Chidambaram is one of the well known tourist attractions and the natarajar temple is a pilgrimage center well known to many. This article tells you about the ways you could reach Chidambaram from Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

How to Reach Chidambaramif you are travelling by air?
Chennai and Trichy are the nearest airports to Chidambaram. Chennai is the International airport. If you are travelling from abroad it will be easier for you to reach Chennai / Madras International airport.
After reaching Chennai you can either drive to Chidambaram or take a train to Chidambaram.

How to reach Chidambaram if you are travelling by rail?
It is very easy to travel by train to Chidambaram from Chennai, as Chidambaram is a station in the mainline of the Southern Railways, which runs from Chennai to Kanyakumari. Some of the trains of the Southern Railways stop at Chidambaram.

Most of the long distance trains like Nellai express, Ananthapuri Express, Nagerkoil Express etc pass through Vriddhachalam near Chidambaram. You can get down at Vriddhachalam and then take a cab to Chidambaram.

To Reach Chidambaram by Road from Chennai
There are two ways of going to Chidambaram by Road.
One is through the ECR / East Coast Road to Pondicherry and then via Cuddalore to Chidambaram. This well be about 218 kilometers altogether travelling by from road. That is Chennai - Pondy Via ECR - 160kilometers and then Pondy - Chidambaram Via Cuddalore - 58kilometers.

Another route is to take NH 45 or the GST Road all the way down and turn slightly left just before Villupuram into NH45 C and then again take a sharp left at NH 227. After a few minutes you have to take NH 45 A to reach Chidambaram. This will come to 249 kilometers.

To travel by state transport buses to Chidambaram from Chennai
You can also get state and private transport buses running from various plces in and around Chidambaram like Trichy, Madurai, Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Pondicherry, Kancheepuram etc.
