The Madras Service Commission was started under an Act of the Madras Legislature in the year 1929. ,Madras Presidency had the unique honor, of being the only province in the country India to begin the first Service Commission. The Madras Service Commission is the old name for Tamilnadu Public Service Commission popularly called TNPSC by Tamilnadu job seekers. TNPSC was started with only three Members with a TNPSC Chairman. After reorganization of Tamilnadu States in the year 1957,so many Commissions were formed to handle TNPSC.

In the beginning TNPSC was named Madras Service Commission and then it was changed into Madras Public Service Commission in 1957. The headquarters of Madras Public Service Commission was at Madras. In the year 1970, Madras state was changed into Tamil Nadu,hence the name Madras Public Service Commission automatically took its new form as Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Regulation, 1954 and the TNPSC Rules of Procedures, regulates the working principle activities of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission. Tamilnadu students can apply for Tamilnadu Government Job through Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
