National Film Award for Best Actor – Winners from Kollywood

National film Award alias Silver Lotus Award is the highest film award given by Indian government. The following Tamil actors got the National Award for Best Actor Category.

1. M.G.Ramachandran alias MGR got National Award for Best Actor in the year of 1972 for the film Rickshawkaran. Rickshawkaran was directed by M.Krishnan Nair and produced by Sathya Movies. Popular legend Music director M.S.Vishwanathan composed the music for Rickshawkaran.

2. Kamal Hassan won National Film Award for Best Actor in the year of 1983 for the film Moondram Pirai. Kamal Hassan, Sridevi and Silk Smitha had performed lead roles in this film. Moondram Pirai was directed by Balu Mehandra and Produced by Sathya Jyothi films Thyagaran. Isaignani Illayaraja scored music for Moondram Pirai.

3. Kamal Hassan won National Film Award for Best Actor in the year of 1988 for the film Nayagan. Nayagan was directed by ace director ManiRatnam and produced by Mani Ratnam and G.Venkateshwaran. Kamal Hassan and Saranya performed lead roles in Nayagan. Illayaraja had scored music and P.C.Sriram did cinematography for this film.

4. Kamal Hassan got National Film Award for Best Actor in the year of 1997 for the film Indian. Indian was directed by ace director Shankar and produced by A.M.Ratnam's Suriya Movies. Kamal hassan, Manisha Koirala, Urmilamatondkar performed lead roles in Indian. A.R.Rehman scored music for Indian and cinematography done by Jeeva.

5.Vikarm won National Film Award for Best Actor in the year of 2004 for the film Pithamagan. Vikram, Surya, Laila and Sangeetha performed lead roles in Pithamagan. Pithamagan was directed by Bala and music scored by Illayaraja. V.A.Durai produced the film.

6.Prakash Raj got National Film Award for Best Actor in the year of 2008 for the film Kanchivaram. Prakash Raj, Shriya Reddy and Shammu performed lead roles in Kanchivaram. Priyadharshan directed Kanchivaram and produced by Shailendra Singh.
