There are two temples in the structure of Ucchi pillayar temple Teichy one is for the Vinayagar and the other one is for Lord Shiva. The Ucchi pillayar temple was built in the 7th century. The Ucchi pillayar temple has some relation with the Ramayana. When the Ramayana finished and Ravana was defeated, Lord Rama gives Vibhishana a Vinayaga statue as the symbol of love. With that statue, Vibhishana goes to the Kaveri bank near Trichy to have bath. As per the words said by Rama to Vibishana, the Vinayaga statue must not be placed down. So, Vibhishana gives the Vinayaga statue to a cowherd boy. But when Vibhishana was fully sunk in the water of Kaveri, the boy dropped the Vinayaga statue on sand and was running.
On seeing the cowherd boy running, Vibhishana got angry and chased that boy to punish him. That boy finally climbed up the rock which is near the bank of Kaveri and got captured into Vibhishana. Anger Vibhishana hot that cowherd boy on his forehand. Soon after got hit, that boy got the shape of Vinayaga. Soon after knowing that boy is the lord Vinayaga, begged his apology to Vinayaga and with reference to this story, the Ucchi pillayar temple was built.

The Ucchi pillayar temple was built by the Pallavas whi were the ancient people of Tamilnadu. Even though the Ucchi pillayar temple construction was started by the Pallavas, the finishing works of Ucchi pillayar temple was done by the Nayaks from Madurai Tamilnadu who built the Thirumalai nayak mahal in Madurai.

The Ucchi pillayar temple is with 2 major parts one is the Vinayagar temple of Ucchi pillayar temple and the other one is the Lord Shiva temple of Ucchi pillayar temple. When we compare the Lord Shiva temple in Ucchi pillayar temple is bigger than the Vinayagar temple in Ucchi pillayar temple. All the small and big temples in Ucchi pillayar temple are built above the rock. So all the architecture works in Ucchi pillayar temple including the Parvathi temple in Ucchi pillayar temple has been done with the same technology of building Temples and structure on rocks. The Ucchi pillayar temple has been well designed to give the full view when we see from the height part of the temple.
