Vishwanathan Anand is perhaps the greatest chess player India has ever produced. In fact Vishwanathan Anand is one of the greatest chess players of all time. And Tamilnadu must take pride in becoming her native state. By his awesome calibre, he has added many laurels to his crown and has made Tamilnadu as well as the whole of India proud.

The career of Vishwanathan Anand got a break when he succeeded to hold the FIDE World Chess Championship title for three years at a stretch: from 2000 to 2002. Then, Vishwanathan Anand defeated Vladimir Kramnik in 2008 and became the world champion undisputedly.
With this great victory over Kramnik, Vishwanathan Anand became the only player in the history f the game to bag the World Championship of Chess in all the three formats, viz. knockout, tournament and match. Further, Vishwanathan Anand successfully defended his world championship title against Veselin Topalov in the World Championship 2010. In 2007, Vishwanathan Anand was awarded Padma Vibhushan, which is India's second highest civilian award, next to Bharat Ratna. He has also received India's highest sports personality award, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, in 1992.
