    Virudhunagaris now a district of india state tamilnadu. It is also headquarters of the district. It was earlier a part of ramanathapuram district. This was also known as grocery town. It was under the pandyas and later passed to the paligars known as palayakararkal in tamil. They showed rigid oppositionto the colonial supremacy and finally were restrained by british
    there is most famous temple called Veyilugandha mariamman.

    Aruppukottai is the place is situated 20km from virudhunagar. It is important weaving centre and grocery trading centre.

    THIRUCHUZHIis the name of the place is so because it was saved from being suckedinto the earth during flood.it is 33km from virudhunagar. A number of sacred poolscan be scattered here.

    SIVAKASIis a town of cottage industry manufactures safety matches and fireworks. It is also famous for litho printing and calender manufacture.more than 80%of match factory is there. It is 25km from virudhunagar.

    SRIVILLIPUTTHUR is most important tourist attraction because of ancient andal temple.the 80m tower of this temple is portrayed in emblem of tamilnadu government. It is also famous for palkova in tamil its a milk sweet. It is 48km from virudhunagar.

    RAJAPALAYAM place is adjacent to the temple town of srivilliputthur. It is the coolest place in the district, which is almost on the western ghats. The dogs are well known for their fierceness. Rajapalayam is an industry centre and famous for teak industry. Here,the well known places are gandhi kalai mandram and library. There is also ramco cements.
