Road transportation of Chennai
Chennai is well connected with other parts of India by Road. Buses, Auto Richshaws , Trains are the most common public transport in Chennai. Four Major National Highways in Chennai are Chennai – Mumbai, Chennai – Kolkatta, Chennai – Trichy, Chennai – Tirupathi.
State Highways are connecting the Chennai with rest of Tamil Nadu and neighboring states.
Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) is a modern and the largest bus stand in Asia. CMBT spread over 37 acres in Koyambedu of Chennai. Chennai mofussil bus terminus is one of the ISO 9001:2000 Certification accredited bus stands. It is the terminus for all the intercity buses of Chennai.
Metropolitan Transport Corporation(MTC) runs the City buses. MTC formerly known as Pallavan Transport Corporation. MTC is under the control of Tamil Nadu Government. MTC has 3280 buses on 643 routes and it covers 50KM around Chennai. MTC headquarters located in Pallavan Salai, near to Chennai Central Railway Station. MTC has totally 25 Depots.
Rail transportation of Chennai
