This article displays the time when the Tsunami attacked Tamilnadu with the causes for that disaster.

December 26,2004 was a black day in the history of India. It was the day the killer Tsunami hit the east coast of our country, killing more than ten thousand people

Tsunami is a Japanese word which means huge waves powerful enough to break harbors. Once Japan was considered more prone to tsunamis. At least for the last 400 years India has not been attacked by a tsunami of such a powerful dimension.

The December 26 Tsunami was the result of the movement of two continental plates that took place under the sea of the coast of Sumatra. The rupture caused by the movement resulted in an earth quake measuring more than 9 points in the Richters scale. It caused huge compression that travelled at a speed of 700 kmph. These waves attacked the Andamans, Sumatra, Indonesia, Maldives, Sri Lanka and the east coast of India. More than 3 lakh people died and property worth thousands of crores was destroyed in these nations.

Both the governments at the centre and the state provided all possible remedial measures to the Tsunami victims in Tamilnadu. Rehabilitation camps were set up in the Tsunami affected areas. Medical camps were organized to treat the affected people. It prevented the break out of an epidemic.

Through the relief work is done at a large scale nothing could be done to relieve the minds which got frightened by the dreadful disastrous Tsunami.
