Mobile Number Portability Steps.

As everyone are aware, the MNP[Mobile Number portability] facility is operational from 20th Jan 2011.Following are the steps to avail the facility.
Steps:
1) Send an SMS to 1900 with “PORT [Space] [Existing Mobile Number]“ (without the Quotes).
2) In reply sms, you will get a Unique Porting Code (UPC).
3) The new service provider will ask for the UPC code while filling in the application form.
4) You will get a new SIM card within a maximum cap of 4 days upon application submission.
5) You will get a message from your new service provider on your existing number about when to start using the new SIM.
6) The cost of porting a number to a new service provider is Rs 19 and maximum porting time is capped for 7days.
Note: You can only change service provider within your service circle.For eg: A person using a Tamilnadu number cannot switch to an service provider in Bangalore.
