Gangai Konda Cholapuram is the capital of the cholas. I have not been to this place. But heard that it is a popular tourist place and is famous for its temple architecture as well as sculptural architecture and the main deity here is Lord Shiva.

Thanks Sowmya for response and throwing some light on the beautiful monument called Gangai Konda Cholapuram. These monuments are the testimony of rich art and culture bestowed by Kings and Maharajas to the people of Tamil Nadu.

Gangai konda cholapuram was built by chola king Rajendra Cholan. Actually he decided to built it competitively with Tanjore Big temple. But when laid the foundation his father the great king RajaRaja chola expired. so Rajendra cholan stopped his way of competition and completed it in short. Try to visit there once. A very nice place to visit cholapuram and the gardening maintenance of this temple is superb.
How to get there:
1. Lot of Buses from Kumbakonam
2.Can go by Jayamkondam also (8 kms from there)
The temple shows the ancient art and architecture and most peaceful place to visit. so many foreigners who are visiting thanjavur are interested to go to this place.

why this temple not famaous tourist place especialy infrastructures,hotels, hospitals,tourist guide...
