Which course is most preferred by the students? There are large number of Engineering colleges and only few Medical colleges. Students generally love the medicine course and if they do not get a seat then they opt for Engineering but nowadays students think whether to take the medicine course.

Engineering students finish their studies very early, i.e., 4 years they get a good job and settle very fast whereas the students who have entered MBBS take a long time to finish the total period is 5 and 1/2 years and now the government has asked them to take the compulsory internship for 1 year, i.e., they have to work in the villages so now it will be 6 and 1/2 years. After this they have to prepare for their higher studies. Getting into MD or MS is not so easy they have to take coaching and then they have to enter many of them spend more than a year to get the seat and then after finishing the 3 year MD or MS again 2 years of internship they will be 28 or 30.
Within this period their engineering friends would have settled very well in their life.

If the students need not want to go to work in the villages then they have to pay 5 to 10 lakhs.

Hi Mangala,

Your statement is absolutely true. Many of our students are most interested today to join in Engineering instead of Medical. The duration of the study is one factor. The another fact is monitory benefit. The engineering students in IT field today having one lakh of salary per month and more than 520 engineering colleges available in Tamil Nadu. But only eighteen Medical colleges are in Tamil Nadu. See Medical colleges in Tamil Nadu and few of them are Government Colleges. The most of them are private colleges and they are collecting money in Lakhs for admission. It will come around 20 to 30 lakhs to complete Medical in the Private colleges where as in Engineering the fee will be of maximum 2 lakhs for entire study.

The next one is that the M.B.B.S. degree alone not enough today and the medical students should go for some PG degree like MS or MD. There are only few seats available for PG courses in Medical. There are many doctors available today and also for each street of every place. Further they have to invest some money in lakhs for the hospital buildings and equipment etc. These are the today's life of the Doctors in Tamil Nadu. Due to these reasons, The students only prefer the engineering instead of Medical.

With Regards,

S.Manoharan.
