    The Tasty Tirunelveli Halwa

    The mouth-watering, smooth and tasty halwa from tirunelveli is made using Wheat milk, sugar and pure ghee. Wheat is ground with water from Tamiraparani river and the extract obtained is wheat milk. It is poured on a large pan and stirred well along with sugar, cashews and ghee until the required consistency is obtained.

    Iruttu kadai halwa refers to the fact that the halwa was prepared under the light of a single, small kerosene lamp decades ago and the same is still being practised generation after generation. it is also to be noted that the halwa is available only in a single shop at Tirunelveli Junction (near old bus stand).

    Tirunelveli halwa tastes its best when consumed hot (immediately after preparation); It simply slides down your throat. It is usually served on clean banana leaf or palm leaf(ols custom) and the taste jus' cant get any better.It can be preserved upto a month and half. it doesn't decay for about two months after preparation and it doesn't need to be refridgerated.

    The halwa is quite cheap and half a kg is available for less than hundred bucks. So, guys.. Jus' go for it and enjoy the mouth - watering sweet!!

    HI,
    At present halwa are obtained in all districts of Tamilnadu. They also found different types of halwa such as paal halwa(milk halwa), Munthiri halwa(cashewnut halwa),Mascoth halwa,carrot halva etc. It varies with the ingredients used in halva. Even now halwa is famous in Tirunelveli district of Tamilnadu. Halva is tastier in Tirunelveli than any parts of Tamilnadu. Halva is famous in other countries too. Countries like Israel,Argentina, Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria,Greece and Cyprus etc. But each countries use different ingredients to make halva. Even many types of halvas are found.
