There are many tourist and picnic spots in and around Coimbatore. There are amusement parks like Black Thunder,Kovai Kondattam.In addition there are parks like Children's park included with skate ground, VOC animals park.There are hills like Maruthamalai Hills and the Western ghats near Pollachi,Coimbatore.The Water falls like Siruvani Falls(also known to be Kovai Kuttralam),Vaidehi Falls,Thirumoorthi falls etc.,There are notable Museums including Gazz Forest Museum near Coimbatore.There are many shopping malls like Big Bazaar too.

I've done my engineering course in the fabulous city, the Manchester of Tamil- Coimbatore.
so let me share few places that can be visited.
VOC park:
The VOC Park is an interesting place to visit in Coimbatore, especially if you are accompanied by kids. For the young ones, the main attractions within the park include the aquarium, which has a good collection of different species of fish, a mini zoo, and a toy train for joyrides. It is situated at the center of the city, reaching there is not a problem.
SIRUVANI:
Thirty-seven kilometers to the west of the city is located the Siruvani waterfall and dam. One is left enchanted and spellbound by the panoramic view of the dam and the falls. The water of Siruvani is known for its minerals and taste. The Siruvanai Dam fulfilled the need of drinking water for most parts Coimbatore.
Monkey Falls
Located at 65-km from Coimbatore and 27-km from Pollachi on Coimbatore-Pollachi-Valparai Highways are the Monkey Falls, a famous picnic spot.
Topslip
It is a picturesque locale in the Anamalai Hills. It is about 37-km. from Pollachi. This small town is an ideal picnic spot.
Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary
Situated near Pollachi at a distance of around 90 km, the Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary forms an interesting excursion from Coimbatore.
The Amaravathy reservoir in the Annamalai has a large number of crocodiles.
