Tamilnadu is known as STATE OF TEMPLES. There are many good old temples with great architect value. These old temples ( Madurai Meenakshi temple - Thanjai Prakatheeswar temple - Rameshwaram Siva Temple _ Tirunelveli Nellaiappar temple - Thiruchendur Murugas temple and his other abodes at Thiruparankunram , Pazhani, Thiruthani etc. and many more which can not be contained in this forum).
All these temples have a pond or well or spring inside the temple.
Very fine stone arts - the statue have life - The pillars have music - the corridors are cool. The Thanjavur Prakatheeswar temple Sivalingam is of great size made of a single stone. The stone placed over the lingam in the Karpagraha is a single stone. What machinary and method was used to place this great stone on the top can not be ascertained. The idol of Meenakshi temple is of Emerald green. Much more to discuss.
The old Hindu temples are constructed in a vast area measuring in acres and the temple corridors have been provided with platforms to stay . This is mainly because the temples provide Emergency shelters to the subjects of the kingdom in case any natural calamities like flood, drought, earthquake etc.
