M S Subbulakshmi, the Nightingale of India, was one of the greatest Carnatic musicians of Tamilnadu.
Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi was one of the greatest Carnatic Singers of Tamilnadu. She was more known by her short name M S Subbulakshmi. The date of birth of M S Subbulakshmi was 16 September, 1916 and the date of death of M S Subbulakshmi was 11 December, 2004.
M S Subbulakshmi was the first ever musician to be crowned with India's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna. M S Subbulakshmi was also the first musician from India to be honoured with the Ramon Magsaysay award, the highest civilian award in the entire Asia. She was also called the Nightingale of India.
M S Subbulakshmi had an envying musical career in her long life. Nevertheless, she stopped all stage performances of M S Subbulakshmi after the demise of Sadasivam, the husband of M S Subbulakshmi in 1997.
M S Subbulakshmi was perhaps the most honoured musician of the twentieth century as well. She almost single handedly revived Carnatic music and for this deed she was honoured with a plethora of Awards and Honours.
