They got this nomenclature for the flattened large hooked bills as well as the huge frog-like gape used for take insects. Grey headed bulbuls are also abundant in the Mundanthurai Wildlife Sanctuary.The Grey headed Bulbul, or Pycnonotus priocephalus, is a passerine bird. It is very common in the Western Ghats. Great Pied hornbills and Great Indian Hornbills are about 3 ft long omnivorus creatures. They strong and curved beaks often surmounted by a bone. Hornbills usually eat insects, small mammals, and reptiles and hence they mostly graze on the ground. The Great Indian Hornbill or Buceros bicornis is really a tourist attraction in the Mundanthurai Wildlife Sanctuary. The Oriental Bay Owl or Phodilus badius and the Ceylon Bay Owl or Phodilus assimilis are also abundant in the Western Ghats including the Mundanthurai Wildlife Sanctuary. The Broad tailed Grass warbler is also endemic to the Mundanthurai Wildlife Sanctuary.

    Best Time to Visit Mundanthurai Wildlife Sanctuary


    The best season to visit Mundanthurai Wildlife Sanctuary is from October to January. It is the best time to visit Mundanthurai Wildlife Sanctuary because the weather is pretty good during this time. Tourists to the Mundanthurai Wildlife Sanctuary can stay either at the Forest Rest House at Mundanthurai or at the PWD Rest House at Ambasamudram.
